Hello, please let me introduce myself. My name is Sue Ferreira and for over 40 years, I practised as an anesthesiologist, in Edmonton, Alberta and Victoria, British Columbia and over the course of my career, I have watched in amazement at our increasing longevity.
So what has this to do with BC Advisors and why am I here on your page with this video?
OK – the Cliff Notes of my story.

Being a leading edge Baby Boomer and also fascinated by history and the social sciences, inevitably, my thoughts ruminate on the consequences of our living an unexpectedly long life.
Before I exited medicine a year ago, I would provide anesthesia for an increasing number of hale, hearty and independently living, patients, mainly women in their mid-nineties, who are now arriving in the Operating Room for knee and hip replacements. We would never have seen these patients even 5 years ago, but today their numbers are on the rise and I still chuckle remembering one delightful 94 year old lady, who told me, “I am so excited! My new knee will allow me to get back to my Tai Chi and gardening.”

Statistically, our life spans continue increasing at the rate of 5 hours a day, so what are the challenges of living to 100 or beyond, especially in challenging financial times?

Put more bluntly, how likely are you to run out of money, before you run out of life?
Women are especially at financial risk as they age, because we live longer than men, for by the age of 100, women outnumber men 5 to 1.

Now, I am not unique in thinking about this challenge – heavens, the media is all over this issue, but for me, most of the financial solutions offered in the mainstream media are unrealistic and old fashioned.

In our rapidly changing world, we all need to rethink how we live our lives, especially how we live our later years. Our World is changing at an exponential rate, which necessitates new ways of doing “Everything”.

This is a story for another day, but on September 29th 2008 at precisely 3.30pm Pacific Daylight Time, I made a decision transforming my life and taking me in a completely new direction.

No one is more surprised than me, to find I am now in the world of online marketing, particularly video marketing.

Many heading into their later years are realizing they will be in financial trouble, so are starting new businesses and many existing small businesses are struggling to make ends meet.
What worries me is many of these ventures will fail, because they are unaware of the revolution in marketing, which has been turned on its head in the past decade, by the three disruptive technologies of YouTube, Facebook and the iPhone.

However, if you embrace this revolution in marketing, which these three amigos have wrought, then the future of your business is very bright and a lot of fun. Did you realize, you can broadcast your wisdom and talents to the world, using just your iPhone Add this little pepper pot and in the palm of my hand, I hold the equivalent of CHEK, Global or CBC TV, as this little marvel is allowing me to run my own TV show with multi-camera shots, in HD from my spare room – Amazing, wouldn’t you agree?

In my next video, I will show you why video and video marketing have become essential for the survival of any business.

See you next month – in the meantime, all my best wishes to you.
